DESCRIPTION OF SUPPLEMENTAL OUTREACH INITIATIVES
• April 2005…Lane College Media Intern Project. Lane College students
received hands-on training at WNWS-FM. Lane students worked with Harrell
Carter of WNWS-FM learning the control board, news reporting, and how
current issues relate to talk radio. WNWS-FM worked with Dr. M.S. Kamara
of the Lane College Department of Mass Communications. Harrell Carter was
the primary contact for WNWS-FM.
• September 2005…WNWS-FM worked with the Careers and Technology Magnet
school of the Jackson-Madison County School system. Students who are
exploring a career in communications came to WNWS-FM to learn how a
commercial radio station operates. Several of the students were involved
in producing a radio commercial for their school that was broadcast on
WNWS-FM. Harrell Carter of WNWS-FM was involved in the initiative.
• January 2006…Job Shadowing with Lexington High School. A student from
Lexington High School spent a day at WNWS-FM “shadowing” Dan Reaves,
learning what Dan does as talk show host and doing commercial production.
Dan Reaves of WNWS-FM was involved in the initiative.
