Mission Committee
  1. Measure our progress on an ongoing basis

Public Relations Committee

  1. Hire a Communications Director
  2. Conduct a Communications Audit
  3. Hire a Web Administrator
  4. Hire an Editorial Assistant

Quality of Education Committee

  1. Expand and market preschool programs to meet the needs of more children in the community
  2. Measure student ability levels at the beginning and end of Kindergarten to ensure their readiness for school transitions
  3. Lower the student teacher ratio by soliciting community volunteers to work with Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten students
  4. TCAP and TVAAS data are closely monitored to identify struggling students as early as possible. Instruction is differentiated in the classroom by student ability levels and appropriate supports are available to all levels of students.
  5. Reduce the number of school transitions and implement a program ensuring the best transition from elementary/middle school to the next level
  6. All schools incorporate SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) programs into their curriculum.
  7. Ensure Middle school is an exciting place to learn, where academic skills are mastered, strong bonds are developed with teachers, and multiple levels of supports are available.
  8. Implement a ninth grade transition program at all the high schools
  9. Use TVAAS data consistently to place students appropriately
  10. Ensure all students have access to the vocational programs of their choice
  11. Pilot a CyberSchool curriculum at one school within the next year
  12. There is a comprehensive support system for teachers using district and community resources (e.g. strengthen Instructional Coaches, streamline/delegate paperwork, assistance with student discipline).
  13. Implement an orientation program for parents of all new students (including family literacy programs) as appropriate
  14. School to home communications include academic progress reports, absences, tardy, and infractions, via phone calls, emails, websites, instant alerts, and parent/teacher conferences.
  15. Establish a Parent/Advocate Program to ensure students are supported by their family and/or the community.
  16. Establish a Community Liaison Program at each school to enhance community involvement in the schools/district
  17. Create an annual progress report of the district in a cooperative effort with business and community leaders as well as parents

Student Assignment and Transportation

  1. Adopt a strict bus discipline policy where principals are held accountable for the standard enforcement and hold students/parents accountable for their behavior
  2. Update school bus surveillance to digital technology on all buses
  3. Increase the pay for school bus drivers for recruitment purposes
  4. Make neighborhood schools for lower grades a priority
  5. Shorter bus routes
  6. Revise the current school structure to eliminate the intermediate level
  7. Rezone to address overcrowding at some schools while other schools are not at capacity
  8. Consider building a new elementary school in the north cluster to ease overcrowding at Thelma Barker
  9. Consider building the new JCM in a central location of the West Cluster
  10. A new structure for the alternative school to accommodate as many as possible
  11. Pay teachers extra at the alternative school if needed

1. Faculty Assignment Committee

  1. Increase teacher salaries, incentives, and ensure administrative support
  2. Promote aggressive recruiting efforts for new teachers
  3. District support for incentives for those who serve in the neediest schools

2. Facilities Committee

  1. Hire a Facilities Manager
  2. Needs such as paint, fixture replacement, window replacement, landscaping, and flooring should be considered
  3. Aging facilities should be given preferential treatment
  4. Implement a Continual Improvement Committee
  5. Funding should be requested and set aside for improvements on a yearly basis by the JMCSS

3. Extracurricular Activities Committee

  1. Publicly recognize and adequately compensate those who provide extracurricular activities. Provide them with the resources and facilities they need.
  2. Provide sufficient and safe transportation for student extracurricular activities
  3. Implement a uniform policy with discipline problems strictly enforced
  4. School Board appoint a Task Force for every school to develop a list of facility and equipment needs and desires
  5. School Board appoint a Task Force to help create a competition level track on Hollywood Road
  6. Hire a person to supervise the care, and coordinate the use, of the facility
